Just 3 hours north of Kathmandu, Langtang Valley offers a profoundly Himalayan experience without the crowds or cost of the Everest and Annapurna regions. The valley is nestled against the Tibetan border, hemmed in by the Langtang Himal and Jugal Himal ranges.
The trek has deep emotional resonance β Langtang village was largely destroyed by the 2015 earthquake, and the rebuilt village and memorial stupa are moving testaments to the resilience of the Tamang people, whose culture, festivals, and hospitality dominate the lower trail.
The high point β Tserko Ri (4,773m) β offers one of the finest panoramas in Nepal: Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma (Tibet), and the entire Langtang chain laid out before you.

Full itinerary.
Early morning drive through the rolling Nepalese countryside to Syabrubesi β a charming town on the Bhote Koshi river, gateway to the Langtang valley.
Trek through dense forest teeming with birds and monkeys, crossing suspension bridges over the roaring Langtang Khola. Lama Hotel is a collection of lodges in a river clearing.
Emerge from the forest into the open Langtang valley. The rebuilt Langtang village and its earthquake memorial are a moving stop. Excellent views of Langtang Lirung begin.
Short walk to Kyanjin Gompa, the ancient monastery complex at the head of the valley. Visit the gompa and the famous yak cheese factory. Afternoon hike options available.
Summit Tserko Ri (4,773m) β a steep 3β4 hour ascent from Kyanjin, rewarded with one of Nepal's finest mountain panoramas. Langtang Lirung, Shishapangma, and the entire chain visible on clear days.
Begin the descent. The valley views improve as you retrace your steps through the forests. The river crossings feel familiar, the forest a little gentler.
Return to Syabrubesi through the last of the forest. Hot shower, celebratory meal, and an early night before the drive back.
Morning drive back to Kathmandu (3β4 hours). Afternoon free for Thamel exploring, souvenir shopping, or rest.
Optional sightseeing β Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, or Patan Durbar Square. Trek certificate ceremony with your guide.
Airport transfer included. 10 days, 65km, and the closest Himalayan wilderness to Kathmandu β done beautifully.
